This place is amazing. We made a reservation and arrived about 20 minutes early, they were able to seat us right away. We tried the focaccia, short rib ragú, filet mignon bolognese and milk chocolate dessert. Everything was delicious, was blown away especially by the focaccia and ragu. The best I've had in a while. Service was great and attentive. The ambience wraps perfectly in a well put together concept. All the pieces of decor fit perfectly with each other. The warm lighting and music sets the tone for a lovely evening with good company, great food and selection of wines.
This was honestly a tough review to sum up. All things together, if I could, I'd probably give this place somewhere between a 3.5-4. It does really well in some elements, but then lacks in others: Marisi is a gorgeous restaurant inside and out. Impressively chic decor that is romantic but well-lit, very upscale Mediterranean/coastal vibes. I absolutely adored the lights from the ceiling in the front outdoor area, and the customized plates they served their food on. Silverware and serve ware were all very high quality. For such a nice restaurant, the service is incredibly friendly. Everyone is approachable, patient, and kind. We never felt rushed, and our waiter was thorough with his recommendations. He was very attentive to us but also knew how to gauge when it was appropriate to check in on the table without being intrusive / overbearing. Loved the etiquette! The Porn Star Martini is a HIT!! Delicious and tasted exactly like the description. Must-try! Also...Fun-fact, this is the only restaurant on the west coast with a barrel of Gold standard Blanton's bourbon (aged 4 months and counting). Where I was disappointed was the food. We ordered two pasta dishes (pasta comprises the bulk of the main entrees here, all hand-made.) First off, I was surprised to see how small the portions were for dishes that cost between $24-35 a piece. One dish is enough for one hungry person, so keep this in mind if you are thinking about sharing. I hate to say this, but in the spirit of honest reviews, I have to admit that The Rigatoni was the worst I've ever tried. The sauce on it tasted like it came out of a Chef Boyardee tomato/alphabet soup can and had some pepper flakes added to it for very minimal spice. We didn't have the heart to send it back, but I definitely wanted to and would advise against it. The short rib ragu is apparently one of their most popular dishes, but I had a lot of trouble understanding why. It largely lacked short rib, the sauce was underwhelming (but better than the sauce on the rigatoni) and overall fell short of the hype. The flavors and textures did not come together well, and it's very short on the short rib. TL;DR -- come for the ambiance and drinks ... pass for the food. The food needs work on flavor, portions, and price tag for what it's worth.
We ordered the little jem caesar salad and carbonara. Best Caesar salad I've ever had and the pasta was so authentic! Zimitro was an excellent server and really made us feel welcomed. Couldn't have had a better experience.
we have a very delightful dinner!!! Everything was amazing and delicious!!! The service by Rob was amazing and the ambience perfect!!!! So cool and chic!!!
Rob is the man! Total professional, funny at the right times, service at the right times. 10/10 would recommend.
Made reservations at Marisi for Father's Day brunch for party of 4. The ambiance was beautiful. Inside outside dining. Dog friendly. We had our well mannered 10lb dog with us. We sat outside on the patio. Water was brought to our lil fur baby. That was nice. We had a fabulous young waiter who gave us excellent service. Our drinks were flowing. We ordered a bottle of wine. We ordered bread and charcuterie appetizers. We were shocked and disappointed to see our charcuterie appetizer that cost $40.00 arrive to our table. It had a 1/2 a round of burrata cheese, 3 slices of supresetta Italian meat, marinated vinaigrette veggies, think they were the kind from a jar, and 2 slices of cheese cut down to slivers ,glad we ordered the toast/bread because there was no crackers to go with charcuterie. The bread was like a toasted slices of bread. We ordered our individual plates of different pastas. The portions were very small and the flavors were nothing to brag home about to mom. We all are foodies and love to wine and dine and love to try new restaurants. We all were not impressed with the appetizers and . Pasta dishes didn't have much flavors, it was so bland and basic pasta. We all shared a couple bites of each plate and all came to a conclusion. It was alright. We are glad we tried it and unfortunately we will not be back. Our bill came to $350.00 for our Father's Day brunch. Beautiful ambiance, great customer service. Italian food entrees didn't meet our expectations. We try a lot of restaurants and feel it's important to share experiences. San Diego local, Laura & Fam
While attending the La Jolla Concours d'Elegance we were looking for something to eat outside the event. While we were on our way to another restaurant this establishment caught my eyes. I took a look at the menu. There were some menu items that my partner and I found appetizing so we decided to eat here. We were seated at a table immediately. Their floor layout is nice so I think almost every table would have a nice view. The restaurant decor was pretty with greenery and flowers. A perfect location to eat during Spring. Our server poured us water and we ordered. For an antipasti we ordered the Mushroom Crostino and for our entree we ordered the Carbonara. The Mushroom Crostino was a savory, creamy appetizer. I enjoyed the different flavors and textures of the wild mushrooms. The Carbonara was delicious as well. I enjoyed the cube bacon pieces. The black pepper added a complimentary spice to the dish. Service was great! Our server was attentive. When my partner stepped away from the table she folded his napkin nicely near his plate. That fantastic service! In addition, even though I don't know his title, a staff member took the time to chat with us. Some of the best service I have received at a restaurant. The reason why I rated 4/5 stars was because the Carbonara portion was smaller than I expected. In their defense, my partner and I did share the meal and it was filling. I am accustomed to larger portions for the price stated. I definitely suggest dining here!
